iPad: The Golden Age

"When can I get my hands on this (so obviously genius) piece of technology."

These were my exact thoughts on the unvealing off Apple's newest product. The iPad boasts the title of the bridge between smart phone and laptop and is to be the new must have product and the apparent future of technology and $499 for the basic model, who would'nt want one? However as amazing as this device appears to be in demonstrations by CEO Steve Jobs, is it perhaps a needless step forward in technology or do we actually need a product of this advanced magnitude for undertaking seemingly basic tasks?

Well lets look at what it offers...

An advanved calander unlike any seen before; buy a calander.
Internet and Email; use a laptop or phone.
Music collection; an iPod more than meets the demands of this.
Photo collection; nothing ever beets holding the real things.

Why are we so desperate to get to get our hands on this seemingly unnecessary product?

My theory is that we have reached our creative peak where we can no longer create any more but simply reinvent existing products. Sure this has been going on for centuries now, why invent escalators when we have stairs. But for around 100 years now we have lived in a golden age where our baser instincts have been catered for and now we have reached the stage where were having to revisit old products that aren't broken and not necessarily needing fixed. In Apples case there inventing products that they can go back an re-release every 6 months, and hey! why not, if people are going to buy, then their going to continue to sell it.

As hypocritical as it is, I still want one even though i'm very aware that I do not need it at all. So...
I'm off to buy a £500 notepad.

2010

A very happy new year to one and all. Now that we have entered 2010, the first big question to be asked is by what name we wish to go by. Should it be 10's, teens, teenies or 2010's? After we solve that issue I have a bone to pick with our scientists... Can they please hurry up with all the hover-cars that were promised to us by the Jetsons, a family so futuristic that even their name sounded like it was from a different decade?

I feel like 2010 has a good feel about it and am positive that it will be. Good luck everyone.
